Trend: Denim on Denim

Well we saw it in the 80s and now it seems to be back again. I'm talking about the denim on denim trend, in which you wear denim on both the top AND bottom. Recent collections by Chloe, D & G, and Ralph Lauren have suggested this look will be in for spring/summer in Australia. I'm a little more apprehensive in believing this trend will really take off. Don't get me wrong, I love my skinny jeans as much as the next girl. But to pair them with a denim shirt or jacket? Give me a plain white t-shirt any day!


Chloe - I'm not a huge fan of the patchwork detailing.


D & G - If I were to wear this trend, I think I like this look the most. The belt and t-shirt help to avoid the heavy denim look.


Ralph Lauren - A little too baggy and masculine for my liking!


Alexa Chung rocks the denim - But let's face it, she could wear a potato sack and still look stylish! I do like how she's used darker denim on the bottom and lighter on the top.

The Hills finale...

It is an end of an era, with The Hills finishing after five years on our television screens. Let's see what the girls wore to their finale...

Whitney Port (left) wears a Matthew Williamson dress. It is definitely my favourite look from the night. I'm so happy colour is back on the fashion menu for spring and summer! Lauren Conrad (right) wears a Mandalay mini.

Stephanie Pratt wears a Herve Leger strapless dress. Cute!

Lo Bosworth wears Tadashi Shoji. I've never really been a fan of the interwined cord look, I'm afraid...

Audrina Patridge wears a purple cut out dress. I love the colour, but I'm unsure about the cutouts.

Kristin Cavallari wears Zuhair Murad. Not really my taste!

The Goods of Gossip Girl

I don't usually like the colour orange, but I am in love with Leighton Meester's gorgeous bright gown! The clash with the purple accessories, which would usually look awful, somehow looks oh so right. This picture comes from a new Gossip Girl scene, which is currently being filmed in Paris and New York. If this fashion is anything to go by, I can't wait for the new series!

World's Best Eyeshadow

Stila's Kitten eyeshadow is literally the best in the world. The pinky-gold colour suits absolutely everyone, and blends well with many of Stila's other eyeshadows (such as Moonlight, which is shown below). While it may be a little pricey ($38), its pigment means you don't need to use too much to build up strong colour. I have had mine for a year or so and it still hasn't run out!

Celeb style: Miranda Kerr

I love many celeb styles, and Miranda Kerr is no exception! Here is her latest look, which she showed off at Orlando's graduation. The floral fabric and pink jacket are perfectly fresh for a formal occasion. A black belt and clutch combined with pink makeup complete Miranda's look.

The Best Entry-Level Buys

The majority of us can only dream of owning a closet full of Manolo Blahniks or a set of Louis Vuitton trunks. In recent years, designers have realised that the mere peasants among us also want a piece of the luxury life. Dubbed ‘entry-level buys’ by many fashion magazines, you too can own a small piece of the high end market. While you may initially scoff at the idea of spending $200 on a silk scarf, think about how long you will own (forever) and the quality of the product (it will last forever).

Without further ado, here are some of my favourite entry-level buys from the most desired labels...

Tiffany and Co - Sterling silver bracelet, approximately $370 . Available from Tiffany and Co stores across Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane). Most of the sterling silver range is affordable. I would also recommend the silver cleaning spray and cloth, as silver tarnishes quickly.

Hermes – Twilly scarf, approximately $200. Many cute patterns and bright colours are available, so you will purchase an almost one-of-a-kind scarf. Available from Hermes stores in Sydney and Melbourne.

Ralph Lauren – Polo shirt, $99. Many patterns and colours are available, and you can even buy one for your man! Available from Ralph Lauren stores nationally and good department stores such as David Jones and Myer.

Chanel – No. 5 perfume. The signature fragrance shot to stardom after Marilyn Monroe announced she only went to bed wearing Chanel No. 5. It is a must for anyone’s dressing table! Approximately $110 for the eau de toilette.

Sportsgirl (it’s a lazy girl’s type of sport)

Sportsgirl has always been a favourite chain store of mine. But when it decided to go all indie, boho, and baggy on me, it fell out of favour with my slim-fitting style. After deciding to visit other stores such as Forever New and Bardot a go, I forgot about Sportsgirl for awhile. That cold turkey effort ended today when I ducked into the old girl to remember the good old times. And I was pleasantly surprised, with strong focuses on the girly-girl and nautical themes. Here is what I bought...

All hail the GHD!

I don’t know about you, but life just wouldn’t be the same without my trusty ghd hair straightener. Ever since I purchased my baby for $300, I have always had a GHD (Good Hair Day). It was quite a costly commitment back in the days of being a poor uni student, but it was TOTALLY worth it. No more having to wear my hair in a ponytail, no more recurring waves after straightening, no more boofiness! And the same ghd is still going strong today...


...but something caught my eye in a hairdresser’s window a few weeks ago. COLOURED ghds! Now I know this is nothing new – the geniuses at ghd headquarters did previously release a purple edition to the family. Come to mention it, they have also released thin and thick editions for fringes and mass curls respectively. But now there are three new members – red lust, green with envy, and blue serenity (you can still buy the purple indulgence ghd).

Would it be wrong to get a coloured ghd too? After all, my trusty ghd could break down at any moment before a big night out, and I wouldn’t have a back up to see me through. Surely my naturally boofy hair couldn’t ever be let out on the town...right?
